To understand how this Chianti Classico Collection, held at the Leopolda station in Florence, went, one only needed to take a tour among the 180 producers present with a tasting stand and look at their faces: many smiles could be noticed.
Certainly, there is no lack of concern, especially related to the progress of international issues linked to the conflict, but for now it is hope that drives producers to look to the future. The fact of being back in person is an aspect not to be underestimated: meeting face to face, comparing notes, exchanging opinions, helps everyone find a well-defined path.

For Chianti Classico, the vintage presented was 2020, with 59 samples for tasting. It is a vintage that already now, but we imagine even more so next year with the Gran Selezioni and Riserve, promises great balance and depth. The overall quality average is very high: essentially, wherever you go, you drink well. Some think that, due to the 2020 lockdown, producers spent much more time in the vineyard and therefore the final product is of a superior level.
Nature, however, did the rest, gifting a vintage that reconciles excellent drinkability right away with a prospect of longevity. Our choice of the best samples fell on Sacello from Arillo in Terrabianca, Casa Emma, Castello di Monsanto, Isole e Olena, Istine, Monteraponi, Poggerino, Quercia al Poggio, Riecine and Tenuta di Campomaggio: wines that also represent the different areas of Chianti Classico, demonstrating that the 2020 vintage was positive across almost the entire DOCG production area.
