Harvest:
2022 had a regular spring, and thanks to the rains that arrived in late spring, we were able to manage the dry months of July and August. This water reserve and canopy management protected us from stress and sunburn.
The dry climate of these summer months favored the health of the grapes, and the rains that arrived in late August allowed the plants to reach optimal grape ripeness. In this delicate phase, the high average altitude and temperature variation also allowed the grapes to reach optimal phenolic ripeness. The harvest began at the traditional times for Radda in Chianti. We started harvesting on September 24 and concluded the harvest around mid-October.
Fermentation and aging:
- Yield per hectare: 75 quintals/ha
- Harvest time: Last week of September
- Fermentation: Stainless steel
- Aging: 70% remains in stainless steel while 30% is aged in 25-35 hl oak barrels for about 12 months. It rests in the bottle for 3-6 months before release.
Tasting notes:
Bright ruby red color with violet reflections. Fruity aromas of cherry, not too ripe, and small black fruits like blueberry. Floral notes of violet and hints of Mediterranean scrub, balsamic reminiscent of eucalyptus. Notes of aromatic herbs like rosemary and light spiciness of white pepper. Juicy and full-bodied on the palate with expressed acidity that enlivens the sip, deep and savory finish with lively and well-integrated tannins.
